Both emotional and physical pain can be crippling to experience.
It can interfere with our everyday lives, making it hard to work, socialize, and even relax and restore our bodies. Acute pain is likely endured by every person at one point or another in their lives.
This can likely be easily addressed with the right plan whether that’s a specific treatment like acupuncture, stopping an irritating movement, or strengthening specific areas of the body.
Chronic pain tends to affect less people, but can drastically affect the health of these individuals.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), chronic pain is typically caused by blockage of Qi (pronounced chi) or an imbalance of Qi that needs to be addressed. Qi is the vital energy that is flowing throughout our system and runs through all of our organs.
You can think of Qi moving through our body like an intricate highway system. If Qi becomes blocked, we can experience a traffic jam. This can create chaos and wreak havoc on specific organ systems, which can then manifest as physical pain.
Emotional pain that has been trapped and unprocessed can also cause us to experience real physical pain. In order to move through and out of this pain, acupuncture and cupping techniques help to move and rebalance Qi, thus reducing pain and reharmonizing the body. Doing this not only brings us out of pain, but it allows our bodies to heal and more importantly reduces the risk for chronic disease down the road.
In last month’s blog post, we touched upon the transition between Late Summer to Fall.
As a recap, the Fall brings the energy of letting go and making space for the new. If we have
unprocessed grief or an imbalance in our lungs or large intestine, emotional or physical pain can
arise. With this being said, acupuncture may be exactly what you need in order to get your body
back into balance and let go of unresolved emotions.
At Intuitive Acupuncture, we use many different techniques to help treat and diagnose
our patients. This may include looking at the tongue or checking the pulse to assess what areas
of the body need attention.
Another technique is one used by our acupuncturist Jonathan Olcott, called dry needling. This technique uses strategic points to help stimulate specific nerves that help to release endorphins, therefore reducing pain and easing muscle tension.
Lastly, cupping is a great technique to help remove any stagnation in the body. This then helps to clear any blockages and restore the body’s natural energy flow and again helps to reduce and relieve
pain.
