Moxibustion: heat is applied to specific points on the body by burning mugwort close to the surface of the skin. Mugwort is an herb used in traditional Chinese medicine to increase blood circulation and the flow of qi.
Moxibustion is effective for helping with a wide variety of acute and chronic conditions and illnesses, including:
- Back pain
- Muscle stiffness and tendonitis
- Headaches, including migraines
- Fatigue and more
Mugwort is an herb in the Artemisia group of fragrant plants that grow worldwide, the most commonly used for moxibustion being Artemisia vulgaris. Certain Artemisia varieties that are unique to the North American continent such as Artemisia ludoviciana and Artemisia douglasiana (California mugwort), have important ceremonial and medicinal uses among indigenous people.
