The New Year is a natural time to reset, reflect, and recommit to your health and
wellbeing. One powerful way to support those intentions is through a thoughtfully
designed cleanse. When done properly, the benefits can be profound, long-lasting, and
even life-changing. I often describe the impact of a cleanse as a three-legged stool, each leg offering essential support for the body and mind.
First, there is the biochemical benefit. By temporarily removing foods that tend to be inflammatory, overly stimulating, or laden with additives, we give the body a much-needed break. This gentle pause allows the liver, kidneys, and digestive system to rest and function more efficiently, reducing the overall chemical burden and supporting the body’s natural detoxification processes.
The Second benefit is the reset of eating habits. A cleanse helps re-establish healthier food choices and daily routines. It offers structure and guidance, highlighting foods that nourish the body while supporting detoxification. Many people find themselves rediscovering simple, satisfying snacks like vegetables
with hummus, nuts, and seeds rather than reaching for chips or crackers. Cleanse
programs also introduce easy, nourishing recipes that make healthy eating feel
accessible again. As creatures of habit, we all benefit from the occasional reminder to
return to what truly supports our wellbeing.
The Third leg is awareness. As foods are slowly reintroduced after a cleanse, we gain valuable insight into how specific foods affect our bodies. When a food has been out of your diet for a couple of
weeks, any reaction becomes much clearer. This process can reveal sensitivities that
may have gone unnoticed before. Symptoms such as headaches, bloating, skin
irritation, gas, constipation, fatigue, or brain fog often provide important clues about
what your body thrives on and what it doesn’t.
I’ve been guiding patients through cleanses for decades, and I’ve never had anyone tell
me they regretted the experience. Common benefits include improved energy,
digestion, mental clarity, sleep quality, and mood.
